Why Not Medical Tourism
There is a growing trend in the world and this is that the travel aspects which are associated with medical and dental needs and is known as medical tourism. While this has been a sometimes controversial and even questionable practice it continues to gain attention, popularity and mainstream approval for numerous reasons. It can actually be an extremely cost effective way to get necessary operations, which in some cases can be otherwise unaffordable. With enormous costs of health care and various health insurance concerns some people also prefer to have issues taken care of in other countries so that they don’t have to fight their health insurance company or fear being dropped from the policy.
One of the more popular and increasingly common associations to this structure is the regular practice of American citizens crossing the boarder into Mexico to receive dental care. It has been long established that dental fees in Mexico are a fraction of what the same procedural cost would be in the States. Dental insurance is also difficult to get if not included in your employee benefits and for individuals who own their own businesses or are privately employed insurance can be unaffordable. This is especially convenient and frequently practiced in the Southwest and is one of the benefits of living in one of Arizona or California’s boarder towns with Mexico.
In addition to benefiting the particular consumer, medical tourism can have a positive effect on cultural diversity and popular attitudes about different countries and societies. Also, it is possible and happens that when a person visits a different country for a medical reason they become interested in returning as a tourist. The medical tourism industry and lead to an increase in vacation tourism for a country and many cities, countries and regions depend on tourism for a large portion of their income. This leads many people to ask the obvious question of why not medical tourism?
